Diagonals in Quadrilaterals

Quadrilateral Review

The family of quadrilaterals.

Buildings

What quadrilaterals can you find in the following images?

Lesson Goals

  • Investigate the properties of quadrilateral diagonals.

Diagonals

A diagonal in a quadrilateral is a line segment drawn from one vertex to the opposite vertex.

Try This!

For each example, the points \(A\), \(B\), \(C\), and \(D\) are vertices of a quadrilateral but we have erased the sides and drawn just the diagonals of the quadrilateral.

Points A, B, C, and D are formed such that diagonal AC and diagonal BD are equal and intersect at a right angle.

Points A, B, C, and D are formed such that diagonal AC and diagonal BD are not equal and intersect at a right angle.

Points A, B, C, and D are formed such that diagonal AC and diagonal BD are not equal and do not intersect at a right angle.
