Vertex

The turning point of a parabola

The top point on a parabola that opens down
The bottom point on a parabola that opens up

Zero(s)

The \(x\)-intercept(s) (\(x\)-value(s) for which \(y=0\))

Axis of symmetry

The vertical line that divides the parabola into two congruent halves

Optimum value

The maximum \(y\)-value of a parabola that opens down OR the minimum \(y\)-value of a parabola that opens up
